At WorkingWin we know that there are lots of ways to make it easier for people to get into work.
So it was great to hear that colleagues at Sheffield Hallam University recently worked with JobCentre Plus to use new ways of recruiting people into various roles.
This is what they told us:
“We have now worked with the Job Centre on three occasions to recruit Domestic Assistants, Catering Assistants and more recently a Finance Assistant.
“Rather than use the online recruitment system, which some applicants may not be familiar with or find a little daunting, we worked with the job centre to identify a group of people who were not in employment but work ready.
“We held an open day where we gave information about the roles and held some informal assessments which consisted of group exercises, English and maths assessments and IT assessments.
“From this, the candidates either progressed to interview or on to a two or three week long skills based course which was run in collaboration with Sheffield College. All candidates who completed the course were guaranteed an interview.
“We have successfully recruited a more diverse group this way into all the posts. All successful candidates were previously unemployed.”
